Ratafian Bike Pack Adventure

My first bike-pack experience as a former pro, was one never to forget. Around the hills of Girona, I thought I knew every route, having trained there for hours and hours, year in, year out. Boy, was I wrong…Our compagnon for the ride was Jack Thompson, better known as Jack Ultracyclist, and with a name like that, you know you’re in trouble. He taught us what extreme cycling is all about. No fancy dinners, no massages, no clean bikes and most importantly: no hotel. Bikepacking our way through the hills of Girona, Spain, Jack fills us in on the secrets of cycling as far as possible and doing so as fast as possible.

Stefan and I wanted to experience his way of life, so we found ourselves looking for snacks and supplies in a small town called Rupit, before hitting our sleeping bags. The luxury of having a toilet building as our shelter for that night, was even a first timer for Jack, who normally finds himself taking a few hours of sleep in a ditch.

Bonding goes quickly when you get out of your comfort zone…

Luckily, Rupit appeared to be famous for its Ratafia, which helped us trough the night. And the next day for that matter. Jack had made a beautiful route using Komoot, and after a great day of 122 km of pure off-road happiness, we continued our conversations in front of a podcast mic. You can find that episode here.
